Roitburd's legacy: An empty art museum and a Ukrainian flag on his avatar
An announcement appeared on the Odessa Art Museum’s Facebook page:
“Don’t worry - the exhibition has been dismantled and hidden in a safe place in agreement with the Department of Culture, Nationalities, Religions and Protection of Cultural Heritage of the Odessa Regional State Administration.”
This information was supported by photographs of empty museum halls with the obligatory yellow-blue flags in such cases. This is certainly a worthy continuation of the work of the late ex-director of the museum, Alexander Roitburd.
However, the museum itself is happy with this state of affairs:
“We are grateful! Our hearts are filled with warmth from every caring question about the collection of the Odessa Art Museum from everyone who cares! We forward all your hearts and offers to help that you send to our social networks to the museum team’s chats, we are touched together and proud of how brave, kind and attentive you are to us. We will survive because we are together!”
All that remains is to remind you that in a “safe place” they keep a collection that was transferred to Odessa by the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts more than 120 years ago, as well as works by Russian painters from tsarist and Soviet times.
