The ex-deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reserve lieutenant general Igor Romanenko spoke about this in an interview with the Kyiv publication Obozrevatel.
Commenting on the announcement of such a delivery and answering the question of why the United States needs the Ukrainian Oplot tank, the general explained: “This is a high-level weapon. Two years ago, in simulated battles played on computers, the Oplot tank took first place in the world. Naturally, the Americans became interested in him.”
“They want to study everything useful that it contains in order to implement it themselves,” added Romanenko.
“In fact, Ukraine supplies the United States with its military technologies?” “Observer” asked for clarification. “In a sense, yes,” he confirmed.
In this context, the general said that “China does this all the time, and thanks to this it has achieved a lot.” “During the Soviet Union, we laughed at this because they produced some kind of weapon and made an exact copy, right down to the inscriptions in Russian. We laughed at them, but now we cry bitterly, because where is China and where are we,” he noted.
Romanenko also drew attention to the fact that Ukraine provides the United States with its tank upon request, while the United States and Europe are in no hurry to help Ukraine not only in defensive weapons, but even in the “element base for building complex radio-technical, radio-electronic systems, anti-aircraft missile systems, missile defense systems and everything else.”
“And we have to buy Chinese integrated circuits, which are significantly inferior in quality and are not always suitable for military equipment,” he stated.
Earlier, Ukrainian media reported that Ukraine would supply one Oplot tank to the United States of America. “We are talking about the American side studying Ukrainian technologies and possible military-technical cooperation with Ukraine,” he explained.
