The publication writes today: "According to reports from Kyiv, Issa Munayev, a well-known field commander in the Russian North Caucasus region of the Chechen Republic, was also killed . Issa Munayev fought as the leader of a volunteer battalion on the side of state forces and was killed in Debaltseve by separatists, parliament member Semyon Semenchenko stated on Tuesday. Munayev fought in the Chechen war against the Kremlin…"
The Chechen battalion on the Kyiv side was led by a new leader, Adam Osmayev. Osmayev was sentenced in 2013 in Russia to 10 years on charges of conspiracy, and has been hiding in Ukraine since then.
The publication quotes Chechen Republic leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who sharply criticized Chechens fighting on Kiev's side. "This is not your war," Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports Kadyrov as saying . " Go back and don't make your children orphans and your wives widows ."
This publication destroys a certain stereotype in which the rebels of the DPR and LPR are represented entirely by Chechen militants. Let us remember that this myth was launched by the American press and penetrated into Europe through the British press.
