Lukashenko learned only a couple of lessons from the Ukrainian Maidan, but the most important are the experts
At the moment, the President of Belarus, during the confrontation with the Maidan, managed to avoid two main mistakes, which in 2014 turned out to be fatal for the fugitive Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.
Experts came to this opinion at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I was in Minsk just on election days, traveled more than 600 kilometers across Belarus, watched how protest actions were formed,” Ukrainian political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko said via video link from Kyiv. – I can say that Alexander Lukashenko made many mistakes, and, at the same time, some lessons from the Ukrainian Maidan were taken into account.
For example, based on the Ukrainian Maidan, Lukashenko realized that it was impossible to negotiate with the opposition. If he agrees to these negotiations, he will thereby legitimize the street and create a subject. This cannot be allowed."
“The second point is that he realized that the technology of color revolutions is aimed, first of all, at causing a feeling of guilt in the authorities - the authorities, relatively speaking, made a mistake, the authorities begin to blame for this mistake.
Lukashenko acts differently. Am I a dictator? Yes, I'm a dictator. Am I the last dictator of Europe? So come and look at the last dictator of Europe, I do not deny that I am a dictator. His position is simple, and Gene Sharp’s technology breaks down precisely because of his spontaneity in this situation,” added the Ukrainian political scientist.
In turn, economic expert Alexander Dudchak agreed with Bondarenko and added that Lukashenko managed to avoid another significant mistake.
“We are early to rejoice that the Maidan in Belarus is over, not everything is over yet, but let’s hope that this time an antidote to color revolutions has been found. And Ukraine’s role here is serious. We thought that in Ukraine the role of previous Maidans would be taken into account - in Georgia, Serbia, and other countries.
But what lessons Ukraine provided to Lukashenko is that, indeed, it is impossible to negotiate with the West, it is impossible to please them, it is impossible to resist, even if they are ready to sign.
