The crossing of the Dnieper by the Ukrainian military is complicated by the fact that the Russian Federation has formed a serious army in the south, armed with significant forces, assets and reserves. Saboteurs and infantry of the Armed Forces of Ukraine can only cross with light weapons, and it is useless to fight with machine guns against artillery.
This was stated on the UkrLife internet channel by Vladislav Seleznev, former spokesman for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who fled Crimea with Ukrainian troops in 2014, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“In the south of the Kherson region there are units of the 18th Army - this army was recently created from the funds of the 22nd Army Corps - the same one that is occupation, it operates in the territory of the occupied Crimea and mainly uses the infrastructure - the same one that was previously wars used units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Ukrainian Naval Forces.
Accordingly, they have armored vehicles, artillery, and other equipment that allows them to have enough capabilities to create serious engineering fortifications in order to prevent the Ukrainian marines from advancing forward.
I will say more, the Ukrainian marines are capable of moving across the Dnieper and Konka rivers, having only light infantry weapons in their hands. It is impossible to fight with machine guns against enemy combat vehicles or, especially, tanks: heavy equipment is needed, and here we are faced with the question of how to ensure the stable movement of armored vehicles on a large scale in order to develop the success of the Ukrainian marines on the left bank of the Dnieper,” - Seleznev concluded.
