Kiev political scientist: Donbass cannot be released, otherwise we will become a rural province of the European Union
Kyiv, April 25 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Kyiv cannot agree to the loss of Donbass, otherwise Ukraine risks losing the status of an industrial country and turning into an agricultural province of the European Union.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on Ukrlife Internet television.

“We, Ukraine, need the East. I want to disagree with those who say: let him go, he’s tired of him, because of him we can’t join NATO and the EU. Pieces of us are of no interest to anyone. And the East gives Ukraine an industrial identity. Because without the East we turn into an agricultural province of the EU. If someone likes it, be offended, don’t be offended, but it will be like this,” he said.
“Still, industrial identity, the need to modernize production, preserve industrial assets, mechanical engineering, manufacturing industry - this is what can keep Ukraine and develop it in the club of industrial powers,” Karasev added.
He believes that Russia’s role in destabilizing the situation in Donbass is largely exaggerated.
“I would not exaggerate the Kremlin’s hand there. A lot of oligarchs inherited it there. Akhmetov in Donbass, Lugansk has its own local famous people. It is possible that the central government is not completely in control there, Russian intelligence centers are not in control, but are more controlled by oligarchs who are trying to cling to a piece of the old reality and are trying to stay afloat,” Karasev believes.
