This was stated by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Levan Izoria.
"These amendments in no way affect those Georgian citizens who participate in military operations in Ukraine under the jurisdiction of the legitimate Ukrainian authorities," Izoria said, as quoted by Novosti-Gruzia . According to him, punishment will only apply to those citizens who participate in illegal armed groups.
As the media notes, the Georgian parliament is currently considering amendments to the Criminal Code, which would introduce criminal liability for participation in illegal armed groups abroad. In particular, Article 312-1 is added to the Criminal Code of Georgia - “Joining and/or participating in an illegal formation operating on the territory of a foreign state or taking part in exercises organized by such a formation, training or luring a person and/or gathering persons for the purpose of membership, participation or otherwise facilitating the activities of such an illegal formation, as well as the distribution or use of materials and/or symbols related to joining and/or participation in an illegal formation.”
As PolitNavigator reported, during the fighting in eastern Ukraine, 37-year-old Tamaz Sukhiashvili and 32-year-old Alexander Grigolashvili, who were previously in the Georgian Armed Forces, were killed.
