Georgia will not receive NATO support in case of an attack on Russia
If Georgia, having become a NATO member, resorts to military aggression against the Russian Federation, the North Atlantic Alliance will not provide assistance to it.
This opinion was shared by the editor-in-chief of the Arms Export magazine Andrei Frolov on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We can remember two precedents. The first was when Turkey, as a NATO member, occupied Cyprus in the 70s. And the second, when in 2015 everyone was discussing what would happen if Turkey and Russia “fight” over a downed Russian plane. Then everyone was inclined to believe that most likely this would be some kind of bilateral story and NATO would not include the fifth article. Therefore, in the event of any aggressive actions by Georgia, I think that NATO will not support it,” he said.
Article 5 of the NATO Charter explicitly provides that an attack by a third party on one of the alliance's members in Europe or North America constitutes an attack on the alliance as a whole.
