The US State Department praised Ukraine for its war with Gazprom
The official representative of the US State Department, Heather Nauert, said that Gazprom failed to present Ukraine as an unreliable partner, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
She announced this on Twitter.
“Ukrainians inspired the world by uniting to reduce gas consumption by 14% last week to ensure a reliable supply of gas to European consumers. “Gazprom failed to present Ukraine and Naftogaz as unreliable transit partners,” the report says.
Gazprom, after the decision of the Stockholm arbitration not in its favor, announced the initiation of termination of contracts for the supply and transit of gas with NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine. In this regard, Naftogaz called on Ukrainians to reduce indoor temperatures by 1-2 degrees to save gas consumption. President Petro Poroshenko announced his accession to the “Tighten” initiative. According to Naftogaz, thanks to this, Ukraine managed to reduce gas consumption by 25 million cubic meters. m, or by 14%.
Let us remind you that on February 28, the Stockholm Arbitration Court satisfied the demands of Naftogaz in its claim against Gazprom. Naftogaz achieved compensation in the amount of $4,63 billion for Gazprom’s failure to supply the agreed volumes of gas for transit. Gazprom must also pay $2,56 billion to Naftogaz. Interest will be charged on the debt - $526 thousand per day, starting from March 1.
