During the Russian Spring, at least three thousand radicals were ready to stand “under the arms” of the Mejlis members in Crimea.

This was stated on the air of the Pryamoy TV channel by the former head of the Mejlis, which is banned in the Russian Federation, and Verkhovna Rada deputy Mustafa Dzhemilev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to Dzhemilev, the top members of the Mejlis demanded that their fighters be given weapons, but in Kyiv they did not dare to do so.

“In those anxious days, at least the remnants of the patriotic forces that we had had to show some kind of determination. Akhtem Chiygoz brought me a list of three thousand Crimean Tatars that they are ready to take up arms and fight the occupiers. These are people who are completely untrained, they don’t even have a hunting rifle. They didn't give it.

It was ten times harder for us, Crimean Tatars, to get a hunting rifle in Crimea than for Russians, because we, it turns out, are the main separatists in Crimea. And the weapons were hidden somewhere, but mostly handed over to the Russians,” Dzhemilev said.

His words were confirmed by the then acting President of Ukraine, ex-Secretary of the Security Council Alexander Turchynov:

“Indeed, we really considered the issue of creating partisan detachments, including among activists of the Crimean Tatar movement. In this regard, in place of the traitor, the Security Service appointed a new head, who was recommended to us by the leadership of the Majlis. Unfortunately, after some time he also went over to the side of the aggressor, and all plans regarding resistance, military resistance, they were transferred to our enemies,” Turchynov complained.
