Chaly: Residents of Sevastopol wanted not to go to Russia, but to the USSR
The return of Sevastopol to Russia turned out to be not at all what the vast majority of the townspeople had imagined, but their requests were not just “inflated, but incorrect.” They hoped to return to the Soviet Union, but so far found themselves in a state without much economic prospects.

The head of the Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol, Alexei Chaly, stated this in an interview with the RBC TV channel.
“Slowly, of course, this euphoria is fading away. The usual routine life begins in new conditions. And in this regard, I think that for the majority of citizens the expectations were not met, although, frankly speaking, a significant proportion of citizens had expectations, I would even say not inflated, but incorrect, because due to the specifics of the population of Sevastopol and the feeling that is here happened for many years, many people saw themselves returned to the 90s, to the Soviet Union with working factories, enterprises, etc.,” Chaly said.
At the same time, the head of the city Legislative Assembly added that “it will never happen in this form again.”
“Without a doubt, the economic situation that exists in the city today, and that was a year ago, is not unsatisfactory, it has no prospects, because a 70% subsidized city cannot exist for a long time. It is not normal. Therefore, this does not mean that there are no options and chances for economic recovery. They exist, it will just be a slightly different economy and a slightly different life,” the politician predicts.
