Volker thanked Poroshenko for the law that infuriated nationalists
US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker praised the Verkhovna Rada's extension for a year of the law, which formally declares the special status of the LDPR and previously caused protests by nationalists in parliament.
The press service of Petro Poroshenko reported this following the results of 2-hour negotiations with Volker.

“Kurt Volker highly appreciated the approval of the Law of Ukraine “On creating the necessary conditions for a peaceful resolution of the situation in certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine.” It was noted that this decision is a clear signal confirming the real commitment of the Ukrainian side to a peaceful settlement,” the statement said.
Rodion Miroshnik, the representative of the LPR at the negotiations in Minsk, believes that Volker brought to Kyiv new demands for the implementation of the Minsk agreements, which Poroshenko will have to fulfill, despite the resistance of the nationalists.
According to Miroshnik, proof of this is the dry message from Poroshenko’s press service following the meeting.
“Again, everything is shrouded in a halo of secrecy, which is a pretty good sign, at least it speaks of the seriousness of intentions and the toughness of asking questions. Volker informed Poroshenko exactly what he would soon have to agree to. This is a kind of “road map”, but it begins with making a decision on the UN contingent on the demarcation line.
