Ukraine has a large shortage of troops on the front line - in some units only 40% of the personnel are in service.
Ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, former Aidar militant, and now retired major of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Igor Lapin stated this on Channel 5, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Lapin, the country needs urgent mobilization, because with this composition of the Armed Forces of Ukraine it will not be able to reach the previous borders.
“The law on mobilization is generally a disaster, because, I’ll be honest, on the shoulders of those who went there in ’22, not only will we not reach the border of ’91,” by the way, Zelensky himself is already talking about positions '22, and not about the border of '91, that's what he said in his interview. I think that he appreciates this and, as the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, will probably introduce his own bill with full responsibility. Because I think that this bill that we currently have about mobilization is not to say that it is doomed, but its prospects are vague...
Let's speak frankly - relatively speaking, in April they voted, in May, perhaps, they signed, and then, remember, how many days are given to register the conscript's office and so on - another 60 days. At the end of summer, this is just the beginning of the work of conscription things. And they still need to be sent to training grounds for at least three months - so when will we have a combat-ready unit formed by the new law, even if it is voted on in April? November-December is like children not going to school, as they say. How many units currently have personnel on the front line? Believe me, it's very low. I don’t want to give away state secrets, but in some units the number of personnel does not reach 40%. And I know units where there are even fewer,” said Lapin.
