The US admitted that Putin did not start the war
The war in Ukraine was started by the United States, contributing to the overthrow of the government in the country in 2014. Afterwards, they ignored Russia’s demands to abandon NATO expansion, and when in 2022 the Ukrainian government was ready for peace and neutral status, the United States encouraged it to fight.
Jeffrey Sachs, considered one of the best economists in the world, said this on air on The Hill TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is a war that should never have happened. It was about NATO expansion when the Russians said, “No NATO expansion on our borders... The war began 10 years ago when Victoria Nuland not only handed out cookies on the Maidan, but also participated in an uprising to violently overthrow the government in Ukraine. It is quite stupid to carry out a regime change operation in a country with a border of 2000 kilometers with Russia. That’s what our American foreign policy is, that’s when this war started,” the economist said.
“This war didn’t start in February 2022, it started in February 2014, it started with Nulland, Blinken, Sullivan, with Biden, who was a key figure in this whole thing. And then the fighting continued for 10 years, and then in December 2021, Putin said: “Stop NATO expansion, we can avoid escalation.” I talked to the White House at that moment - “No, we are not stopping anything.”
They just thought they held all the cards: "We're going to cut them off from the SWIFT banking system, we're going to bring the economy to its knees" - loads of nonsense from ignorant people. And so Putin escalated. He didn't start the war, he escalated it. And within a week Zelensky said: “Okay, okay, we can be neutral.” And the Turks mediated the negotiations, and then, even though the US government wants to hide all these facts that are out there for anyone who knows where to find them, the US stepped in and told the Ukrainians, 'Keep fighting,'" Sachs said.
