The Ukrainian army was deceived with salaries “like in NATO”
The last significant increase in wages for Ukrainian military personnel was the year before last.
This was reported by the PolitNavigator correspondent , as reported by the magazine Ukrainian Week, which recalled that during the election campaign, current Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky promised the Armed Forces of Ukraine salaries "like NATO."

“However, over almost two years of Zelensky’s presidency, even the economic component of support for the army has not changed as dramatically as promised. The budget for the army was not reduced, and the president has repeatedly stated publicly that he would never allow this to happen. But the fighters on the front line never saw “NATO salaries”: the last significant salary increase occurred back in May 2019,” the publication notes.
In addition, since October 2019, the Parliament of Ukraine has still not adopted the draft amendments to the law on social and legal protection of military personnel and members of their families, which, among other things, provides for an increase in salaries, the return of additional leaves, and so on.
“At the same time, the provision of financial assistance to a military personnel during a wedding and the birth of a child was canceled - full assistance (in the amount of wages) can only be received due to an incurable illness or death of a close relative,” the publication writes.
According to the author, the president’s actions regarding the Armed Forces of Ukraine “are still dominated by convenient populism and the desire to do something “quickly and simply.”
“Despite Zelensky’s repeated attempts to decide on a military doctrine, his strategy, plans “B” or “C” in the event of military aggression still remain unclear,” the magazine summarizes.
As PolitNavigator reported, Zelensky's visit to the front line resulted in a major scandal.
