“Andrey, a self-taught engineer, came to the DPR to help the republic set up vital production. I accidentally stumbled upon a checkpoint and was captured. He is accused of “creating a terrorist organization” (Article 258-3 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code). In the Mariupol pre-trial detention center, prisoners are practically not fed, they survive on parcels, and captured militiamen are tortured,” states Shapinov.
He cites the message transmitted by Sokolov from the pre-trial detention center:
“Today I had my first court hearing. Berdyansk court (judge O.G. Pakhomenko), but they didn’t even take me out - via video conference. From the detention center. They want to judge remotely! Tomorrow at 10 am the next “meeting”. I asked for an interpreter, they postponed the trial until tomorrow when it will take place. And I will file a petition to attract a paid lawyer and personal presence. We need to involve the media, make maximum publicity, otherwise they want to quietly sue you under Article 258 (from 8 to 15) with a bunch of false evidence and violations. Help publicize this “trial” as widely as possible,” Sokolov urges.
