NATO does not accept countries that have territorial conflicts, and Ukraine will not become a NATO member if only for this reason.

Igor Pilyaev, a doctor of political science and professor at the Department of International Relations and International Information at the International Academy of Personnel Management (MAUP), recalled this at a roundtable discussion on Ukraine's foreign policy status, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“The highly respected experts present here know very well that NATO does not accept states that have territorial conflicts as members. Moreover, armed conflicts with neighbors. We cannot resolve our conflicts as a member of NATO; we can resolve them only by securing our status as a non-aligned, neutral state. So let’s tell our people the truth: NATO is a goal that is unattainable,” he said.

He also recalled that it was NATO that acted as the aggressor against Yugoslavia and a number of Middle Eastern countries.

“We respect NATO and value cooperation with this organization, the democratization standards that it puts forward, but let’s not forget that NATO is not an angel either. It was NATO, without the sanction of the UN Security Council, that began an armed intervention against sovereign Yugoslavia. It was the most powerful armies of NATO, the USA and Great Britain that began armed aggression against sovereign Iraq, then against Libya, then against Syria, etc. If we stand on a platform of respect for international law, let us be the first to respect those principles and not applaud the tough guy Trump,” he said.
