Ukrainian language lost to the Russian language even in conditions of unfair competition
Ukrainian businessmen can't compete when they focus exclusively on selling Ukrainian-language products. This was stated by renowned Kyiv political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky on the PolitWera online channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The expert gave the example of one of the bookstore chains, which refused to sell publications in Russian, but the business fell into decline.

“It is almost impossible to maintain this ideological doctrine. They won't even be able to do it with stores. Of course, many stores will do it, but here’s the story - we have such bookstores, a chain of stores throughout the country, this chain is called “Knigarnya “Ї”, and 95% of the books there are in Ukrainian. And so, recently, they ran into some publishing house that published in Moscow and sells somewhere in Russian.
But now there is a statement from their management that “we cannot, we are forced to return to selling Russian books, otherwise we cannot stand it, we have no business, we become unprofitable.
That is, when it comes to what language books are read in, although we knew this before - we have surveys and all that, and we still know very well that approximately half of the population (speaks Russian - ed.).
It’s best not to ask: “What is your native language?”, because when they ask what your native language is, it turns out that 35% or something like that is Russian and 65-63% is Ukrainian. And when you ask people: “In which language is it more convenient for you to answer the interviewer’s questions,” then people speak, and it turns out approximately in half - half are more comfortable in Russian, half in Ukrainian. Therefore, somehow they are unable to quickly solve this problem,” Pogrebinsky said.
