Ukraine intends to drag NATO into a war with the LDPR
Kyiv's claims to immediate entry into the NATO bloc currently have no prospects for implementation.
This was reported by PolitNavigator correspondent and written in Nezavisimaya Gazeta by Vladimir Pryakhin, professor at the MGIMO Department of Diplomacy.
“NATO generally does not accept “problematic” countries with internal instability or external conflicts. That is why Latvia and Estonia were accepted only when, despite Russia’s protests, they managed to close the OSCE field presences in Riga and Tallinn: they were no longer needed there, the local political elites had no problems with Russian speakers. This trick won’t work with Ukraine—what kind of stability can we talk about if there’s shooting in the country?” notes the author.
According to him, by insisting on the immediate satisfaction of its application to join NATO, Kyiv wants to involve the collective West in an unleashed war with its citizens in the southeast.
“After all, Article 5 of the founding NATO treaty provides that an armed attack on one or more participating countries (and the actions of the self-defense forces of the self-proclaimed Donbass republics are qualified by the collective West as a Russian attack on Ukraine) will be considered an attack on everyone,” the political scientist emphasizes.
At the same time, he adds that NATO members themselves do not want to fight.
“Their favorite methods of struggle, which they really master quite skillfully, are diplomatic intrigues, fake information, color revolutions and economic sanctions,” sums up Pryakhin.
