Tymoshenko demands that the IMF forgive Ukraine's 52 billion debt as a “victim of aggression”
Ukraine should contact the IMF and demand the write-off of all external debts.
Former Ukrainian Prime Minister and Verkhovna Rada member Yulia Tymoshenko stated this on the 1+1 TV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Tymoshenko, we should be talking about more than $50 billion of Ukraine's external borrowings.
“The next issue that the president should raise is the issue of writing off Ukraine’s debts. The history of the world knows a lot of examples when in such situations the debts of states were written off. For example, the IMF wrote off debts for 25 countries at the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic. There have been examples in history, I don’t want to waste time, there are dozens of them, when debts were written off, when the country fell into a system of aggression and other difficult situations,” the ex-prime minister said.
“Our external debt today is approximately 52 and a kopecks billion dollars. This means that if we now have friends in the Western world, according to international law and according to the Budapest Memorandum, they are obliged to write off $52 billion of government debts,” Tymoshenko said.
