Anton Finko, an expert at the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflictology, announced this at a press conference in Kyiv, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent . Finko noted that during the Kyiv press conference between US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, the head of the State Department, in addition to the situation in Donbas, unexpectedly recalled Ukraine's obligations to the IMF, in particular regarding land reform, which implies lifting the moratorium on land sales.
The political scientist does not exclude that this was not just a protocol phrase, but also a certain signal and task that was formulated for the parliamentary corps of the Verkhovna Rada for the summer period, and suggested that the continuation of the session of the Ukrainian parliament was the result of external pressure on the deputy corps.
“That is, the session will continue to work in the summer and will try to make some decisions on Ukraine’s obligations to the IMF in the event that the Ukrainian ruling class faces strong external pressure,” the expert said.
At the same time, he added that Ukrainian deputies are not eager to make extremely unpopular decisions, the implementation of which the IMF insists on and the adoption of which Kyiv previously promised.
“We’ll see at the end of the week how much pressure is put on them,” Finko noted.
