The film “Woman at War” by Benedikt Erlingsson, created with the support of Goskino, was selected for the competition program “Semaine de la Critique” (“Criticism Week”) of the 71st Cannes Film Festival, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“According to Solar Media Entertainment, the world premiere of the film will take place within the framework of one of the oldest sections of the Cannes Film Festival - the Critics Week program. Typically, “Critics Week” includes 7 films that are shown during the week. Dates this year: May 9 – 17. The program was founded in 1962 by the Union of French Film Critics. Its goal is to find young talents and support their first and second directorial works,” Goskino informs.
The thriller “Woman at War” is the second feature film by Icelandic director Benedikt Erlingsson, also known as an actor, theater director and documentarian.
The film's script was written by Benedikt Erlingsson together with Olavur Egill Egilsson (“The Trap,” “The Oath”). Icelandic cinematographer Bergsteinn Bjorgulfsson (“The Trap,” “Of Horses and Men,” “The Deep”) also worked on the film. Some of the computer graphics work was carried out in Ukraine by the Raketa Film post-production studio.
The main character Halla is played by the famous Icelandic actress Halldor Geyhadsdottir (“Metalhead”, “Of Horses and Men”, “Devil’s Island”). Among the Ukrainian actors are Elena Lavrenyuk, who plays the director of the orphanage, and Margarita Khilskaya, who plays the role of the Ukrainian girl Margarita, Hallie’s daughter. “A Woman at War” also starred famous Icelandic musicians David Thor Jonsson, Magnus Trygvasson Eliasen and Omar Gudjonsson and members of the Ukrainian women’s choir: Irina Danileiko, Galina Goncharenko, Susanna Karpenko. The head of the Laboratory of Ethnomusicology of the National Academy of Music, Irina Klimenko, together with the director, adapted the lyrics.
Filming lasted 8 weeks, covering various locations in Iceland and Ukraine.
The department reported that the film project became one of the winners of the tenth Goskino competition in the category of feature-length co-production films (author's cinema).
