Ukraine will soon be left without IMF money
During the election campaign, not a single Ukrainian politician will support cooperation with the IMF, the continuation of which requires such unpopular steps as increasing tariffs in the housing and communal services sector.
This opinion was shared on the air of the Rada TV channel by the executive director of the International Blazer Foundation Oleg Ustenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We will interrupt cooperation with the IMF; we will not be able to stay in the program. I believe that after the tranche that we will receive, in a good situation in May, it is unlikely that we will be able to continue to cooperate. The agreement was signed for 14 months, but given that it began to work last year, 1,3 billion dollars have already been received, and the balance - 2,6 billion - has been distributed into two parts. We will receive the May part,” the analyst explained.
“I think that May will be the last frontier, because then it will be necessary to take unpopular steps - at least an additional increase in tariffs. And it is clear that not a single political player from the ruling coalition would want to support this kind of move, because it could have an extremely negative impact on ratings. And at the peak of the political cycle, this would be an extremely unpopular decision. I think, as usual in the case of Ukraine, cooperation will first be suspended, and then gradually die,” Ustenko concluded.
Let us remind you that presidential elections will be held in Ukraine in March, and parliamentary elections in September.
