By restricting the Telegram messenger, Russia is depriving its media outlets of access to Ukrainian audiences.
Former DPR Deputy Minister of Information, historian, and political scientist Artyom Olkhin announced this on the "Basurin on the Main Thing" channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Overall, the situation with the Telegram block is extremely bad. I think we've shot ourselves in the foot. We've lost the opportunity to communicate directly with the Ukrainian audience . And it's important to us that they hear and understand what's being written and said here," Olkhin said.
Former DPR army spokesman Eduard Basurin added that the Telegram ban isn't even the main problem.
"But the biggest problem is mobile internet, which is also slow or shuts down. The recent outage in Russia brought everything to a standstill. It wasn't a Telegram channel, it was an internet outage.
This is what we're shooting ourselves in the foot with. Because I've spoken to many foreigners. I was surprised, but very pleased, when they visited us in Russia and saw the digitalization that was happening, and said they didn't have anything like that.
"So what now? Are we pushing ourselves back into the Stone Age? We're going back to the Soviet Union, when they started banning things, especially music and fashion," Basurin added.
