Bans on Russian artists performing on the territory of Ukraine have nothing to do with issues of Ukrainian national security.

This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Ukrainian online publication “Apostrophe” by Russian satirist and liberal oppositionist Viktor Shenderovich, answering a question about the ban on singer Natasha Koroleva’s performances in Ukraine due to her tour in Crimea and the expected similar decision regarding Kristina Orbakaite.
“The situation, of course, is not easy when we talk about the occupation, the occupied territories. I understand her pain perfectly. But the SBU is the Security Service. And to be honest, I don’t understand what danger the Queen or Orbakaite could be in danger of,” the satirist noted. – It seems to me that there is much more of a PR and political theme here, security has nothing to do with it. Naturally, this should be decided by the Ukrainians themselves. If you ask my opinion, it seems to me that these kinds of nomenklatura feats are quite ridiculous.”
“You understand the thing: if you work in the SBU, then it’s quite difficult to resist Russian saboteurs, spies, Russian influence,” Shenderovich added. – This requires brains, energy, professionalism. In order to keep Orbakaite out, you don’t need brains or professionalism. By doing this, you seem to record your patriotism and emphasize your need. But it seems to me that I see some kind of disproportion between the “threat” posed by Kristina Orbakaite, “threat” in quotes, and the efforts, ranks and salaries of the people who do not let her in. It seems to me that for such a salary it would be possible to catch a saboteur worse than Kristina Orbakaite.”
