Russian blockade of ports allows up to 70 percent of grain to remain in Ukraine
Only 30% of Ukrainian grain can be exported by rail and road transport.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Yuriy Vaskov stated this on air on the ICTV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The presenter asked what options remain for exporting grain to the West if the ports are not unblocked this summer.
“The chances of exporting grain are to increase those directions that we are already using now. These are the western borders, transportation by rail and road. These are the Danube ports. All these areas are increasing volumes and increasing throughput.
Specific technical measures apply. The railway infrastructure is expanding, procedures at the borders are improving, control measures are being simplified, both on the part of Ukraine and on the part of neighboring EU countries, that is, this gives a certain increase in exports.
But, of course, we are not talking about the ability to export the entire volume that is necessary to ensure global food security. According to our estimates, the alternative routes that are currently in use will be able to provide up to 30% of exports. In order to implement, first of all, global food security programs,” Vaskov reasoned.
