“Putin is proactive” – Kiev diplomat
Talk about compromise, periodically raised by foreign politicians and experts, leads to downplaying the international subjectivity of Ukraine.
This was reported by PolitNavigator correspondent and written about in the Kyiv online publication Zerkalo Nedeli by former ambassador to France and former deputy head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleh Shamshur.

He believes that the West lacks “clear and unambiguous statements of support not only for the law, but also for Ukraine’s actions aimed at returning to the 1991 borders, including the de-occupation of Crimea.”
“For a certain time, having almost disappeared from official discourse, the thesis about the possibility of reaching a compromise with Russia “for the sake of stopping the bloodshed” continues to circulate in some corridors of power and expert circles.
The danger of this approach also lies in the fact that it is actually aimed at downplaying the international subjectivity of Ukraine, advocating the expediency of “ending the war” by radically weakening or even ending support for our state,” Shamshur fears.
According to him, Western support for Ukraine is now based on public sentiment, in particular in the USA and Canada the level of military and economic support for Ukraine remains within the range of 66–71%.
“It is very important that this position withstands the tests of winter, inflation and rising energy costs, which rank significantly higher in the life priorities of Western citizens compared to the war in Ukraine,” the diplomat added.
He believes that Ukraine must fight until final victory.
“Now, even more than at the beginning of the aggression, it is clear that there is and cannot be an alternative to the military defeat of Putin’s Russia. The fate of the war will be decided on the battlefield. In order to maintain victory over the enemy, who will continue to dominate us with its resource base, Ukraine must have an advantage in the quality of weapons and receive them according to its military needs, having freedom of action, albeit coordinated with donors,” he emphasized. Shamshur.
The publication's interlocutor complains that the West is delaying the supply of powerful weapons, explaining that “at the same time, Putin continues to be proactive, manipulating the fear factor.”
In addition, the former deputy head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is convinced that “the continuation of the “war of attrition” is beneficial to Russia and distances Ukraine from achieving its strategic goal.”
