Pushilin: We must fight for every mine
We need to fight to keep every mine in Donbass in working order, but not in such a way as to leave everything as is, but in such a way as to bring each one to a profitable level.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, announced this to the Oplot TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There are problems with the coal industry, and they have now come to light and have worsened. The last such catalyzing component was Covid, a decrease in energy consumption in the world as a whole, of course, this also affected the coal industry.
But my deep internal position: Donbass without coal and without metal is no longer Donbass. Therefore, we must fight for every mine. But we shouldn’t fight just to leave it as it is; we need to bring each mine to profitability.
It’s not easy to make the mine work, you need to increase wages, it needs to be raised from something, you need to improve labor safety, and this must be preceded by modernization - something that our scientists are working on, and this needs to be done. That is, each mine must reach a profitable level - this is the task,” said Pushilin.
“Sorry, but this is almost impossible,” objected the channel’s special correspondent Rashit Shekhmamentyev.
“You know, many people told us in 2014 that the Donetsk People’s Republic is not something that is almost impossible, it is impossible. And we are. And with coal we will achieve it. Because I don’t see it any other way; the industrial region simply cannot exist any other way. Why then do all this if we don’t have industry?” – responded the head of the DPR.
