Right-wing radicals are preparing to seize one of the shrines of Ukrainian Orthodoxy - the Pochaev Lavra, writes Nezavisimaya Gazeta.

The publication recalls that on July 22, Metropolitan Vladimir of Pochaev sent official appeals to the head of the UOC, Metropolitan Onufry, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the leadership of the SBU and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in which he claims that “certain persons” are preparing an assault on this monastery, the basis for which could be a provocation with the import to the territory of the monastery of weapons allegedly belonging to the separatists.
“This is not the first time that information about threats from nationalists against one of the most revered Orthodox monasteries, located in the Ternopil region, has appeared; similar messages have been coming one after another, starting with the victory of the Euromaidan at the end of February 2014, the newspaper recalls. – But such an official reaction on the part of Governor Pochaev was shown for the first time, which indicates the seriousness of his assessment of the threat and, accordingly, the greater reliability of the information. This is also supported by the very detailed description of the technologies in Metropolitan Vladimir’s letter, with the help of which it is planned to carry out attacks on the monastery he controls.”
On condition of anonymity, a source of Nezavisimaya Gazeta in the UOC reported that not only a provocation is planned with the import of weapons, but also with the deportation of people to the Pochaev Lavra under the guise of Orthodox believers, who at the right moment will use these weapons against nationalists or members of public groups gathered near the walls of the monastery organizations.
“The bloodshed allegedly committed by the “defenders of Russian Orthodoxy” will become the basis for the storming of the monastery with its subsequent transfer to the jurisdiction of one of the schismatic Churches operating in Ukraine, while public opinion will be inclined to support those who will “liberate” the Lavra from “armed separatists” “- the source of the publication believes.
