Poroshenko was accompanied on the trip by Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan and Minister of Finance Alexander Danylyuk.
The residents of Izyum themselves, of course, were glad to get rid of traffic jams and connect different parts of the city (although during the repairs the bridge was not blocked at all, the number of lanes was reduced.)
The 210-meter long bridge is part of the road in the direction of Donbass. It was built by captured Germans and Japanese in 1951; during the Soviet years they tried to maintain the facility in exemplary order.
However, during the 90s, the bridge became dilapidated and worn out, and in 2004 it was restored taking into account modern requirements. The ribbon was cut by the then governor Evgeniy Kushnaryov, under whom the Kharkov region began to emerge from devastation.
And then the bridge could have survived for a long time if in 2014 it had not been gouged to the end by military equipment heading to iron Donbass. And then they destroyed not only the bridge, but also the entire road from Chuguev to Slavyansk.
Poroshenko stressed that from now on 30-ton trucks can move through the checkpoint. Work to restore the M-03 highway, which connected Kharkov and Donetsk during Euro 2012, will continue until the end of this year.
How long will the infrastructure last after restoration?
There is reason to doubt it, given the plans voiced in Kyiv for the “Croatian scenario” in Donbass.
