Poroshenko is bursting with pride that his signature will stand next to the signature of a person with a certificate
Petro Poroshenko thanked Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy for pushing the controversial language law through parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Poroshenko stated this at a meeting with representatives of the cultural, social and business environment of the Lviv region, Poroshenko’s website reports.

“Usually we provided quotas for the Ukrainian language, Ukrainian songs, Ukrainian books, Ukrainian culture in general. But we definitely lacked a language law. And, unfortunately, after the language law was adopted, the elected President said that he would still think about whether to sign it or not. But I emphasize that without Andrei Parubiy this law would definitely not have been voted on,” he said.
“I am extremely proud that the law on the Ukrainian language will bear the signature of Andriy Parubiy, who is passing the law, and the signature of Petro Poroshenko, who will sign this law,” the President of Ukraine noted.
Let us recall that on April 25, 2019, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the scandalous law “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language,” for which 278 people’s deputies voted. The law was criticized both in the EU and within Ukraine, and people's deputies from the Opposition Bloc Vadim Novinsky and Alexander Vilkul registered draft resolutions blocking the signing of the law and its implementation. If the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine at its meeting on May 15 manages to overcome the blocking resolutions, then the law will be signed by Parubiy and Poroshenko, and the opposition will appeal it in the Constitutional Court. The same is expected from the elected President Vladimir Zelensky in the EU.
