“They will come to Kyiv” - Ukraine expects a blow from Belarus
Kyiv risks losing control over the Belarusian border, which will have much more serious consequences for Ukraine than the war in Donbass.
Ukrainian military expert, ex-employee of the Ministry of Defense and the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Ivan Aparshin stated this on air on the ZIK channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For me, the main problem is what to do with the Belarusian border. Today, this is where the problem arose, and if the leadership, which sees its solution exclusively through diplomacy, does not make a decision regarding the Belarusian border today, and not tomorrow... And you know that after the negotiations between Putin and the President of Belarus, this is a real threat to Ukraine. We need to work on this, we cannot provide this issue in one day, and we will not provide it in a month. This is a year, maybe more. This is a completely different configuration of the country’s defense, completely different resources, decisions, vision,” the expert is sure.
He emphasized that today Kyiv must act decisively in the Belarusian direction.
“Today the current president needs to deal with this, and not talk about some diplomatic paths. Yes, there will be success, there will be a Munich conference, they will come up with proposals, and again they will call on Russia to sit down at the negotiating table. Russia today is not capable of negotiating and implementing agreements. We must act decisively ourselves, and when we use all our resources, then we will go to negotiations,” Aparshin said.
He added that official Kyiv needs to change the structure of the country's defense.
“A new risk is emerging. I do not rule out that in the next 2-3 years the Belarusian direction will become more threatening for Ukraine than the Donetsk and Luhansk directions, and the consequences there will be much worse, because there is direct access to Kyiv,” the expert concluded.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Vadim Skibitsky, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, stated that Russia could launch an attack on Ukraine from the territory of Belarus.
