Assess the scale of theft: How Maidan activists are ruining the ports of Ukraine
The seaports of Ukraine are in a deep crisis; they have ceased to generate profits and are suffering colossal losses. MP from the Batkivshchyna party Sergei Sobolev spoke about this within the walls of the Ukrainian parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I tell you the results of 8 months of activity of these ports: Ust-Dunaisk - minus 1,3 million hryvnia, Skadovsk - minus 4,2 million, Belgorod-Pridnestrovsk - minus 13 million, Reni - minus 16 million, Kherson - minus 26 million, Berdyansk – minus 27 million, Chernomorsk – minus 33 million. This has never happened before. There are always ports, including the ports of the Black Sea and the Azov Sea, otherwise in the Azov Sea there will now be an answer that only the bridge is to blame for everything (Kerch Bridge - ed.). The Black Sea is the same situation,” the politician complains.
According to Sobolev, the reason for the loss of profit is that most of the berths leased to private companies are registered in offshore jurisdictions.
“Ports have always brought billions in profits. After the creation of the seaport administration and the leasing of all the berths, private structures are now managing them, all of which are registered in offshore jurisdictions. What's happening? When will the government finally address the catastrophic situation in the maritime industry with sea transshipments? How long will this last?” the deputy is indignant.
PolitNavigator previously reported that Ukrainian authorities are destroying the unique ecosystem of the Sea of Azov by transferring troops and naval forces there.
