“We need to act toughly” - a Ukrainian deputy predicted the Crimean scenario in Transcarpathia
If the Ukrainian government does not resort to tough and decisive measures to address the situation in Transcarpathia, then Ukraine may lose this region just as it lost Crimea.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Sergei Labazyuk stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We must move diplomatically, but use all possible and impossible instruments of harsh influence. Let's compare this with what happened in Crimea. While the Ukrainian government sat and watched the events in Crimea for weeks, we lost it. Today, sitting and watching Ukrainian citizens receive passports and swear allegiance to Hungary is unacceptable. And the title “Authorized Minister for Transcarpathia” is a clear signal. Therefore, today there must be tough actions on the part of the Ukrainian authorities in relation to the events that are taking place in Transcarpathia.
Today we are beginning to be bitten off from all sides, not yet territories, but what will be the next stage? Today there are passports and some benefits, but tomorrow the question will arise that 70% of people live with a Pole card or a Hungarian passport, which means this is no longer the territory of Ukraine, but of Hungary or Poland,” he said.
At the same time, the parliamentarian did not rule out the possibility of introducing Ukrainian troops into the territory of Transcarpathia.
We have to look at this very strategically. Perhaps at this stage there will be no troops yet, but then the question will arise that there will be a serious risk. Therefore, today we need to act diplomatically, but not like Klimkin - shake hands, but set tough conditions,” Labazyuk noted.
As a reminder, PolitNavigator previously cited a statement by Dmytro Tymchuk, coordinator of the Information Resistance group and member of the Verkhovna Rada, that Moscow and Budapest are planning to seize Transcarpathia and form the Transcarpathian People's Republic there.
The website "Myrotvorets," controlled by the Ukrainian authorities, also began adding personal data to its database of Hungarian passport holders in Transcarpathia.
