Don't swear, boss! – The reconstruction of the park in Sevastopol turned out to be a “foam fake”
In Sevastopol, by May 9, the first stage of reconstruction of the city's largest Victory Park was opened. The project worth 1,2 billion was accompanied by numerous scandals due to repeated failure by contractors to complete work on time. Apparently, in order to avoid new reproaches, officials decided to show the unfinished work to the public for the holiday. The public was invited to admire the new fountains, but the green spaces in the park, destroyed by construction equipment or dried out during Ukrainian times, were not restored.
“Earth, earth all around. It doesn't even smell like a blade of grass. Earth and stones,” writes Crimean journalist Leonid Karpov in his blog.
Other visitors note that the builders, clearly in a hurry to meet the Victory Day date, worked poorly and in a hurry. There are no ramps for disabled people or strollers, in the evening there was no lighting even on the main alley, the new tiles are already causing criticism.
“The fountain is beautiful! The tiles around are just a nightmare... Already chipped and badly laid,” writes Vasily Vintor.
“Residents of Sevastopol really hope that you will force the contractor to redo all the chipped and broken tiles, which are almost every meter,” Anna Chertushkina addresses the governor.
In general, Sevastopol’s Victory Park so far bears little resemblance to a vacation spot that can compete with worthy examples in other Russian cities. This “reconstruction” is, of course, not bad compared to the years of desolation in Ukrainian times. But it is clearly not worthy of a city of federal significance, which claims to have a large tourist flow. In short, this is not Zaryadye and not a new park in Krasnodar. There will be nothing to surprise visitors here.

A well-known businessman and politician in Sevastopol, Oleg Nikolaev, also criticized the reconstruction of Victory Park in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
“I didn’t like the way the 200 million billion was spent. In my opinion, there was no need to do anything special with the park. It was necessary to increase the green areas, tidy up the paths that existed there, and leave it at that. I think everyone would enjoy it.
And now we will have people in swimsuits and swimming trunks walking along the Walk of Fame Cities under the scorching sun.
I saw the quality of the work performed - it was a hack job. Our city, in my opinion... I don’t want to say loud phrases, but it looks very much like it is being turned into some kind of cheap fake. Our great city is gradually turning into a plastic foam dummy, which will crumble in a year,” Nikolaev said.
Let us remind you that elections of deputies to the legislative assembly are coming in Sevastopol in the fall.
The ruling United Russia party aims to maintain control of the city parliament and win more than 50% of the seats. However, at the moment, the “ER” rating in Sevastopol, according to some data, fluctuates around 30%.
