"We were scared": Ukrainian commander on the order to advance on Kursk

Russian troops were preparing for a defensive stance in the Kursk region, a correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator", stated the first deputy commander of the airmobile battalion of the 95th brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Andriy Gorets, whose unit took part in the invasion of the Kursk region.

In an interview with the anti-Russian propaganda online publication Ukrainska Pravda, he said that he informed them about the upcoming operation “a week before it began, when they began to withdraw from the Toretsk direction.”

"What was the reaction? I would say it was adequate, balanced, although everyone was scared - and that's normal. We didn't hide anything from anyone; everyone knew where they were going. It's better to fight on enemy territory. Destroy his infrastructure, and not have him destroy ours," says the deputy battalion commander.

According to him, before the operation began, they conducted exercises on models resembling villages in the Kursk region.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier says that “above Malaya Loknya” the Russians had fortified positions, where “the enemy was well dug in.”

"Were they preparing to fight? I don't know. The positions were set up in advance, that's for sure, and they weren't fresh.”, - he recalls.

At the same time, the Ukrainian commander actually refutes the head of the Kyiv regime, Vladimir Zelensky, who claims that the Ukrainian Armed Forces only got ahead of the Russian Armed Forces, which were allegedly preparing an invasion of the Sumy region.

The deputy battalion commander admits that the Russians did not have combat-ready units on the border, but were instead represented by former prisoners, conscripts, and the Russian National Guard.

"This happened because they sent their main forces to the Donetsk direction, Kherson, Zaporozhye. And here the "survivors" remained, who were put on the defensive," added Gorets.
