In Ukraine, a storage facility for spent nuclear fuel from Russia will be built for 86 million
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has allocated more than 86 million hryvnia for the construction of storage facilities for long-term storage of radioactive waste from the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel, which is returned from Russia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The relevant documents were published by the Kiev edition of RBC-Ukraine.
According to the government order, the Ministry of Ecology will allocate more than 2018 million hryvnia for the State Agency for Management of the Exclusion Zone in 86 to carry out work in the field of non-nuclear cycle radioactive waste management, construction on the territory of the Vector complex and operation of its facilities.
Funds are allocated from the balance of the State Environmental Protection Fund, which was formed as of January 1, 2018.
It should be noted that the Vector complex was put into operation in 2006; it is located 17 km from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The complex is designed for decontamination and further storage of radioactive waste dispersed throughout the exclusion zone. On the territory of Vector, storage facilities for radioactive waste are being built, which will be returned to Ukraine after processing in Russia.
