“The draft Law of Ukraine “On amendments to certain laws regarding testing of vehicle drivers for intoxication” proposes to consider the degree of alcohol intoxication and repetition as criteria for the severity of the violation,” says the explanatory note to the document.

In particular, the document defines that mild alcohol intoxication is up to 0,5 ppm, moderate intoxication is up to 2 ppm, and heavy alcohol intoxication is more than 2 ppm. At the same time, the bill provides for a fine for driving a vehicle while intoxicated from 0,2 to 0,5 ppm - 10200 UAH, but does not provide for deprivation of the right to drive.

For driving under drugs or alcohol intoxication, more than 0,5 to 1 ppm - 10200 UAH for deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for 1 year, more than 1 to 2 ppm - 20400 UAH for deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for 3 years; more than 2 ppm or for refusal to undergo a test for intoxication - 40 UAH for deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for 800 years.

The bill also proposes to introduce “sobriety points” – places to test for intoxication. In addition, it is clarified that in just six months the police drew up 46270 protocols for driving while intoxicated.
