In Ukraine, they reported the issuance of 750 thousand ID cards with fingerprints instead of book passports
To date, 752 thousand ID cards have been issued in Ukraine and 3 million readers have been installed.

This was announced by the head of the press service of the State Migration Service, Sergei Gunko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“ID cards began to be produced in January 2016. As of today, 752 thousand ID cards have been issued,” the official said.
At the same time, he added that the ID card performs all the functions of a passport without reading information from the chip it contains.
“3 million smartphones in Ukraine have NFC chips and can read information from ID cards,” said Sergei Gunko.
Also, according to him, reading information from the chip is necessary in the case when you need to find out the authenticity of a document.
“Law enforcement, border and migration services have such readers... The banking system has these readers,” the official said.
In addition, he recalled that since November 2016, data on the fingerprints of a citizen of Ukraine has been entered into the ID passport.
“This is optional, it is not mandatory. Fingerprints are entered into ID cards with the consent of the person... fingerprints are an additional security parameter, which, using another method, guarantees that no one can use the document except its owner,” emphasized Sergey Gunko.
He also added that “unfortunately, it is impossible to add information to the ID card; the information that can be changed is only registration of place of residence, marriage, etc. Fingerprints are immutable information.”
According to the official, the lack of information about fingerprints will not in any way affect crossing the borders of countries to which Ukrainians can travel using internal passports of a citizen of Ukraine.
Previously, the State Migration Service of Ukraine stated that as of July 4, 2017, it had issued 4 million 50 thousand biometric passports for traveling abroad.
