We hoped for a warm winter in vain: Kyiv has lost all its heat generation – energy expert
Despite government statements, Ukraine will have difficulty restoring the facilities that provided Kyiv with heat and electricity.
As reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent , Grigory Plachkov, former head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, stated this on the air of the video blog "News Factory."
He emphasized that due to significant destruction of energy facilities, Kyiv has lost the ability to provide the region with heat and electricity.
"Replacing Kyiv's CHPP-5 and CHPP-6 very quickly, in my opinion (I cannot comment on official statements from our ministers and other leaders), will be very difficult," the expert admits.
He also spoke about the “biggest mistake” Ukraine made before this winter.
"We believed, and I believed, that there wouldn't be a winter like this, that we'd have a more or less stable winter, that there wouldn't be such low temperatures, that there wouldn't be such intense shelling for the duration of a full-scale war. The enemy is shelling critical infrastructure, energy facilities...
"Unfortunately, sometimes winter, as they say, just goes off the rails, right? And that's why these factors—the shelling and the low temperatures—all came together," complains Plachkov.
