Merz must reach an agreement with Putin, completely ignoring von der Leyen and Zelensky – former German minister
Germany should negotiate with Russia without waiting for the European Commission to appoint a negotiator.
Former German Science Minister Klaus von Dohnanyi stated this in an interview with Die Welt, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"The key is to go to Moscow and not wait for the EU to reach an agreement. They'll never do that. You need to go yourself, on the Germans' instructions. Following the German Chancellor's instructions, but speaking from a position of European interests, talk to Putin."
Putin himself said he was ready to receive Europeans to discuss Ukraine. And we still haven't responded to Putin's invitation. I consider this a serious mistake," von Dohnányi said.
He believes that Berlin will have to abandon the principle of “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.”
"We are very interested in peace. And if Zelenskyy is unable to achieve it, we will have to negotiate peace over his head, together with the Russians," von Dohnányi said.
