Some of the SVO's goals may have to be postponed, says Duma deputy
If Russia fails to achieve all of its strategic military objectives, it will have to resort to using soft power.
State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin announced this at a meeting of the Livadia Club, organized by the CIS Institute, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"There's a lot of talk now that we can't achieve our goals militarily anytime soon. We're moving slowly, not attacking drone production facilities on foreign soil , because that would mean escalating the war into a global one, and so on.
Therefore, I see that we won't achieve everything we want through military means—that is, all the goals of the Central Military District. But the world will be even worse , because we'll postpone these tasks for a certain period of time—that's unacceptable. They'll regroup and then attack us.
This often leads to the conclusion that we need to start a war with all of Europe. If we reason like this, we can end up with anything.
If we can't achieve certain goals today, we may have to postpone them until later. But we need to figure out what we can and can't do, " Zatulin said.
He emphasized that a revanchist Ukraine would likely persist. Therefore, it would have to be addressed using different methods.
"We're sitting in Crimea, and we're constantly hearing about how we don't know how to use soft power. But how did Crimea ever return to Russia? Wasn't it because all this time we kept Crimea from forgetting about Russia, and Russia from forgetting about Crimea?"
“And we achieved our goal when the situation changed, thanks to the Crimeans and the president,” the deputy concluded.
