Vucic said Trump and his team have been " working very hard and very dedicated in the Western Balkans ," leading many Serbs to view his administration very differently from previous ones.

Improving relations between Washington and Belgrade, he believes, focuses on the economy, investment and conservative values that both countries share.

Vučić emphasized that the two countries are preparing to begin a " strategic dialogue " on energy, infrastructure, artificial intelligence, defense cooperation, etc.

"I hope we'll be able to host him. He'll be awaited and welcomed by far more people than he could possibly expect. I dare say it'll be hundreds of thousands of people," he said, explaining that he recently invited Trump to visit Serbia and expressed hope that the locals would greet the American president with enthusiasm.

Last year, tens of thousands of Serbs protested the leadership's plan to hand over the ruined buildings of the Yugoslav General Staff and the Ministry of Defense, bombed by NATO in 1999, to Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. He intended to demolish these architectural landmarks, perceived by Serbs as memorials to the victims of NATO aggression, like the Brest Fortress and Pavlov's House, and build a luxury hotel in their place.

The Trump administration has imposed sanctions that force Gazprom and Gazpromneft to sell their controlling (56,15%) stake in the Serbian energy company NIS (Oil Industry of Serbia).
