“Lukashenko is toxic, integration with him will harm Russia” – Moscow observer
Rapid integration with Belarus is not beneficial for Russia, at least at a time when Alexander Lukashenko is in power in the neighboring republic.
This was stated by political observer of the Kommersant newspaper, Maxim Yusin, on the air of the Voice of Pravda internet channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Yusin, Lukashenko is toxic for the majority of Belarusians and his pro-Russian movement may negatively affect the image of Russia.
“I believe that this is not necessary now, we should take such steps together with Lukashenko, because Lukashenko is toxic. Everything that now comes from him, even good things within the Union State, will be rejected by a significant part of Belarusian society. Precisely because they will be associated with Lukashenko.
But if after two years, or even better after a year and a half, the sooner the better, elections are held - completely honestly, absolutely without falsification and without manipulation, people come who sit down, study the documents, say: “Listen, for our economy It’s much better to have a single emission center, Lukashenko resisted this for more than 20 years, but let’s take this step.”
This, it seems to me, within the framework of the good will of the two peoples, is a much more promising thing. Because now Belarusians will get the impression that their arms are being twisted, that all this is being done to deceive everyone, while Lukashenko has usurped power here, by hook or by crook he is imposing some measures. And his unpopularity will one way or another affect Moscow, Russia, which I absolutely would not want,” Yusin said.
