Rear Admiral: Russia will take a principled position on Iran
The Russian fleet is always ready for adequate actions at sea, as evidenced by the results of various exercises and the renewal of naval personnel, but in light of the Iranian crisis it is unlikely to come to the use of the Black Sea Fleet.
Rear Admiral Vladimir Solovyov, who previously headed the intelligence of the Black Sea Fleet, stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
“Only in silence can all these issues be resolved. Sudden movements can disrupt the system that has already been established. But what happened to the general and the stampede where dozens of people died is an abnormal phenomenon. It is disadvantageous, I think, even more so for Russia. Talking about how Russia is always to blame for something, that negative things happen, will lead nowhere.
As for the deployment of the fleet, the fleet is always ready. Moreover, recently they conducted exercises and the ships were updated. But I think that it will not come to the point that Russia will use the Black Sea Fleet to resolve some issues. I think that during Putin’s trip to the east and to Turkey in particular, these issues will be discussed, and Russia, as before, will take a principled position - all issues are resolved peacefully,” Solovyov said.
Earlier, Iranian armed forces launched missile strikes against US military bases in Iraq. The attack began at 1:20 a.m.—the same time several days earlier that a US drone destroyed the vehicle carrying the Iranian government's second-in-command, General Qasem Soleimani.
