Ukraine should demand money from the European Union to improve the border with Belarus, citing the need to curb the influx of migrants into the EU.
Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin stated this on the ICTV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the diplomat, the Ukrainian authorities must now “grab” the leadership of the European Union by the collar, extracting funds.
“Now there is also a migration crisis. And it is built according to the classic scheme: Putin trolls Europe, recalling the migration crisis of 15 and 16. This is the bringing in of people by charters. They cynically made money from them, because they took them for the opportunity to travel and obtain visas. Now they are being driven to the border, and today a breakthrough was organized at Krinitsa. It didn’t pass, thank God,” said the ex-minister.
“What will be done then? As soon as 16 thousand do not get through to either Poland or Lithuania, they will be transported to our border. The issue of demarcation is an important issue, the Belarusians tried to beat it with their hands and feet, but for the purposes of defense, demarcation does not affect the flight of a bullet at all. Today I would grab the European Union by the collar or put it in a noose and say: this border with Belarus is, in fact, our common security. Give us resources and money for the joint development of the European border. This is the main story,” Klimkin said.
