Silver medalist of the Rio Olympics Zhan Belenyuk stated this in the “Rendezvous” program on Channel 5, owned by Petro Poroshenko.
A video announcement of the program, which will be shown on Sunday, was published on Youtube.
“Do you think we are now on the right track, what the country is struggling with?” the journalist asked.
“What is she fighting for?” the athlete clarified.
“We are now fighting for independence,” the presenter said in surprise in the studio.
“Yes, we immediately end up from one addiction into another,” Belenyuk disagreed. – Unfortunately, we cannot be independent as we would like. If not the East, then the West will dictate its terms to us.”
In addition, the athlete said that the situation in the country is deteriorating, including in sports, and also expressed bewilderment why singer Jamala was given a three-room apartment, but athletes are denied similar improvements in living conditions.
“As I understand it, Jamala is the mother of many children,” Belenyuk noted, not without sarcasm.
As a reminder, Zhan Beleniuk won the Olympic silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling, losing in the final to Russian athlete Davit Chakvetadze. Afterward, Ukrainian Minister of Youth and Sports Igor Zhdanov accused Russia of stealing the Olympic gold.
