Dutch court on Crimean gold violated UNESCO principles

By deciding to give the collection of Scythian gold to Kiev, the Dutch court went against the principles of UNESCO on the protection of cultural property, since 28 exhibits that were presented at the exhibition belong to the Chersonesos Museum, which, in turn, is part of UNESCO.

State Duma deputy Dmitry Belik stated this on the talk show “Meeting Place”.

“This collection of Scythian gold includes 28 exhibits from the Chersonesos Museum, which is protected by UNESCO. It is absolutely obvious that the trial was politicized. There is a post-war convention on the indissolubility of museum collections, where something was handed over to a museum, it must be returned in the same condition to the same museums. Therefore, apart from the political component, there is nothing in this decision,” Belik said.
