NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated this at a briefing in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Economic sanctions are very important. It is not NATO that decides the issue of sanctions against Russia, but NATO countries impose sanctions on Russia and, I think, these sanctions should continue as long as Russia demonstrates unchanged behavior in relation to the Minsk agreements and Crimea,” Stoltenberg said.

He recalled that the Alliance has tripled the composition of its response forces in the east and strengthened its presence “as a response to Russia’s aggressive actions in Ukraine.”

According to him, NATO is providing political and practical support in order to strengthen Ukraine’s endurance in the face of “Russian aggression.”

“NATO actively supports the Minsk process, the Normandy format, because this is the best format for resolving the conflict in Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said.

He noted that the Alliance welcomes initiatives to hold new meetings in these formats.
