SVR General: “In 2004, the Americans offered Moscow to divide Ukraine”
After the victory of the “orange revolution” in 2004, Washington, assessing that Russia would not put up with “their Ukraine,” through intelligence channels offered Moscow the option of dividing the country along the Dnieper.
This was stated on the Den channel by retired Lieutenant General of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Leonid Reshetnikov, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Remember the first Maidan? They crushed it, it was 2004. The Americans turned to us and said: "Are you going to divide Ukraine?" They saw that Russia resisted then, after all, we did not approve of this policy of Yushchenko. "Are you going to divide Ukraine?" They understood that we could not agree with their Ukraine.
And we brushed it off then. Apparently, we simply didn't have the strength to deal with this issue seriously. But it was a serious appeal from the special services: "Are you going to divide Ukraine?"
That is, they seemed to understand that we could intervene harshly, and practically proposed a division on the Dnieper. You will say, conspiracy theory? What conspiracy theory, when I [saw] it clearly and distinctly," Reshetnikov said.
